My problem is that I’m deluded

Ok, I’ll caveat this in case Julie reads it. My problem on the rowing machine is that I’m deluded. (Real life problems include being messy and not always listening…) I’ve had a couple of good sessions recently. Saturday’s CTC was very rewarding. I did a lot better than I thought, and I beat the guy I’m always chasing (for now)! And today, I had a couple of nice sessions. First up was the Indoor Rower’s League. This month it’s a 4 minute effort. Simple – how far can I go…

Water, nutrition, supplements – nothing without effort!!

I’m constantly looking for an edge.  Drink more water in order to be more hydrated, make weight and feel better.  Eat protein, take BCAA’s, creating, beetroot, multivitamins and fish oil in order to give my body  what I think it needs Don’t drink, don’t eat cakes or biscuits etc so I don’t get sluggish (or out in weight!)  And I’m now investigating EFT to help my mental side, and baking soda which helps with the onset of lactic acid.  But none of this means anything if I don’t put in…

Day 5 of water challenge ends. 2.6kg lighter!

At first, I put this down to some kind of metabolic swing – but my weight dropped by 1.3kg between Monday and Tuesday, then another 700g to Wednesday, 100g to Thursday and 200g to today.  If it were a swing, I’d expect it to go up at one point (that’ll be tomorrow…)  I have to assume it’s a water retention issue. After all, I do take Kre Alklyn.  Next week, I’m definitely going to make my lunch sports drink isotonic though – just for my own peace of mind.  Some…

23/12/15 – Tech wags the dog?

I like tech. Give me a gadget, and I’m happy. In fact, I’ve just strapped on the new Atlas Wearables wristband, which tracks individual exercises when lifting weights – very clever. One of the bits I rely on is the HRV app from iThlete. It’s an interesting thing to look at. How changes in your heartbeat can reveal over-training etc. So every morning, I wander downstairs, turn on the kettle, sit down, and check my heart with the app. What I’m looking for is for it to say that I’ve…

21/12/15 Eyes wide shut 60min (with Video)

Maybe not eyes shut for 60 minutes, but today was a day of exploration. I set up the camera again to record the first 10 minutes of my 60 minute row today. Apologies for another mute video. But I had the radio on, and it seems Coldplay don’t like their music accompanying my rowing, as I got an email from YouTube about copyright breach, and so they’ve muted the video. Watching it, my concerns about slide length (at 25spm anyway) were dismissed. It’s a lot better than the 100m attempts…

16/12/15 – Sub 18min 5000m – woohoo!!

Despite still feeling quite drained, I decided I’d have another bash at the 5k today, to try to improve my ranking and maybe get under 18minutes for it. After a 1000m warm up, I went for it. It’s always a good sign when you’re 10 strokes in, pulling 1:44 and feeling good. But, I decided to be sensible and let it ease down to 1:47 / 1:48 – and that’s pretty much how it stayed until 500m to go – at which point I cranked it up to around 1:42.…
